Hi, this is Marc. You’re browsing ermshaus.org, my personal website. I hope you’ll find something of interest here.
I work as a web developer (HTML/CSS, JS, PHP, …). Feel free to contact me about freelance work of all sizes. (Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache.)
A more detailed description of what I can offer to you:
I am mainly a back end developer but I know my way around front end technologies.
I am a big advocate for web standards, semantics and
the KISS principle.
I like the approach of
progressive enhancement
and
responsive design.
I can explain what the deal with /XML|X?HTML(?:5?)/ is.
(I mean, I really can explain.
And no, I am not talking about the regex. That one’s a given.)
I can explain more
complicated
things,
too.
I respect the HTTP. I have opinions about topics like CSS IDs versus classes.
I think global state is a code smell.
I work with Git and I write unit tests. I do not cheat at phpGolf.
Technologies I like to work with: Zend Framework, Symfony, PHPUnit, Doctrine, Composer, jQuery, Ext JS, Sass/Compass.
I own an Arduino board. I am a GNU/Linux user since 2006. I sometimes use a hex editor for real work (and for play). I use LaTeX as a word processor. I have written code in a dozen different languages. I like teaching. I like learning. If you want to google me, google for „mermshaus“.
Tools I use: Ubuntu, Git, NetBeans, SSH, VirtualBox, Inkscape.
I am an okay designer. I cannot draw.
I like FLOSS. Currently, I work on phpsog, Kaloa and occasionally webdevbuch.
I do other things that do not involve a computer.
People who inspire me: Mark Pilgrim, Matthew Baldwin, Dave Winer, Shaun Inman, Kevin Kelly, Joseph Pearson.
—Take care.
